The leadership training ‘Communication, Interaction & Management Skills (KIM)’ is the international version of the most popular leadership programme in the Netherlands. An English spoken, unique management development programme for middle- and higher management from which you will benefit for the rest of your career. You will gain insight into your leadership style and learn to make conscious choices and, above all, prevent working on ‘auto pilot’.

The Communication, Interaction & Management Skills (KIM) programme is a challenging and result-oriented leadership training for managers. The most important focal points of this leadership training are learning to lead effectively and developing leadership qualities. You will learn to mobilize and expand your personal values and qualities, while simultaneously applying everything you’ve learned directly into your daily routine. The participants can inspire and motivate each other and adopt more effective and new forms of communication, interaction and management. And, while there is room for sharing “tips and tricks”, we aim to go above and beyond for you.
Your daily functioning as a manager will improve because of your heightened personal insights, your increased knowledge, the development of specific skills and your ability to identify your talents and obstacles. Working from your own personal views and values will increase your influence and strengthen your leadership skills. This training will also help you develop your own style and become an all-round, professional manager and effective leader. The skills gained from this programme will help you find and maintain a better balance, preventing unnecessary stress. All of this helps create a stable, inspiring and positive working environment, which benefits you and everyone around you!
KIM is a management training designed for managers with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree: you direct your employees, conduct performance reviews, are responsible for the results of a team or department, etc. You are ready to boost your leadership skills.You know there’s added value in working with a varied group of participants (max 12) and you want to learn from others. We ask our participants to be active. You are willing to take responsibility for your own learning objectives. We know from experience that the long-term improvement of your management qualities and leadership skills is well worth all your invested time and effort.
After (completing) the training you:
This is a complex, dynamic and fast-changing time that requires leaders capable of adjusting quickly and finding their own solutions for different situations and dilemmas. Committed people who work from a basis of personal leadership: who take responsibility, make informed decisions and do whatever is necessary for their line of work and their own development.
It is a difficult position to be in, as a leader. On the one hand, you want a pleasant relationship with your team and create a constructive atmosphere, but on the other hand you also have to achieve results. It can be tricky to balance the interests, wishes and demands of the work force, your team and upper management all at once. Many managers have moved up in the ranks to a position of leadership, based on professional experience. Though, they quickly realize that managing a team is a whole different ballgame, and there is a difference between being a leader and actually leading. If you supervise others and would like to take your management skills to the next level, the KIM training will provide you with vital insights and experiences.
The development of your leadership skills is a crucial part in this training. You will establish your own personal style and qualities and use those to lead effectively. The training also addresses personal aspects within the context of your job as manager. This makes the KIM a challenging and sometimes confronting leadership programme, with surprising insights that can be applied immediately.
The KIM training offers a mix of cognitive learning (theory and skills) and experience learning. The cognitive part includes, among other things, learning the philosophy of various models and how to apply helicopter view, different leadership styles, negotiating and dealing with conflicts, and stress and time management. Experience learning is derived from practical exercises and interaction between participants in the group. You will experiment with the acquired knowledge, skills and desired frame of mind, and practice several different leadership styles.
You will experience the leadership style of others in the group as well, and be able to give them feedback and tips. This switch from leader to being led by your fellow participants will help you understand what your employees might need in different situations.
Being a manager, you will ‘manage’ your own learning process and fully commit yourself in order to realize your learning objectives, as can reasonably be expected. In addition to the training, you will work on (concrete) assignments in order to apply what you learned into your own working situation. We expect your direct supervisor to be actively involved in your learning process. Planning interim reviews with your supervisor will help you keep him/her up to date.
The instructors of Van Harte & Lingsma will provide an atmosphere of trust during the training, which in turn creates constructive interaction. Of course, an open and active attitude among the participants is essential as well.
The training comprises four blocks of three days, this means you will attend 32 day parts in total. These blocks are spread out over a period of about six months. In the periods between each block you will actively implement the gained skills and experience into your daily practice. During the four training blocks, all participants stay at the conference venue overnight. Van Harte & Lingsma will provide the accommodations.
Block 1: Getting a clear picture
Feedback, communication, decision making, psychological testing, effective situational leadership, learning styles, coaching, reflection.
Block 2: In-depth
Negotiating, collaboration, leadership vs. victimhood, increase power & influence, effective functioning in difficult situations, coaching, reflection.
Block 3: Team development
Team learning, team development, personal learning situations, case study, developing your leadership skills, coaching, reflection.
Block 4: Developing self-directing team & personal leadership skills
Management game (with actors), programme customized to your personal learning points, personal leadership regulations, coaching, reflection.
Each block starts at 11:00am on the first day and ends around 4:00pm on the last day. There is also an evening programme planned on the first and second day. During the fourth block, the location is organized by the participants themselves, with a limited budget. As a result, the facilities can differ from those during the first three blocks.
